Two ways to whiten

In-office whitening uses a stronger, professionally applied gel and gets you the biggest change in a single appointment. Take-home whitening uses custom trays and a lower-strength gel over about two weeks. Many patients do one in-office session and keep the trays for touch-ups.

A natural shade

The brightest possible white isn't always the best look. We pick a target shade that suits your skin tone and the whites of your eyes, so the result reads as healthy rather than artificial.

What whitening can't change

Whitening works on natural enamel. Crowns, veneers, bonding and fillings stay the color they were made. If you have restorations in the front of your smile, whiten first, then match any new work to your new shade.

Is it right for you

Good candidates

You may be a good fit for Teeth Whitening if any of these sound familiar. The only way to know for sure is a scan and an exam at our Brentwood or Burbank office.

  • Your teeth have yellowed or darkened with age
  • Coffee, tea or wine have stained your smile
  • You have a special event coming up
  • You're planning veneers or crowns and want to set the shade first
The Process

What to expect

  1. First visit

    Exam and shade

We check for cavities or gum issues that should be treated first and record your starting shade.

  2. Same or next visit

    Whitening

In-office whitening in one appointment, or custom trays made for home use.

  3. About 2 weeks later

    Review

We compare against your starting shade and plan any touch-ups.

Questions

About Teeth Whitening

Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?

Some people feel mild sensitivity for a day or two. We use desensitizing formulas and can adjust the strength.

How long do results last?

Usually one to three years, longer with good habits and occasional touch-ups.

Is store-bought whitening the same?

Over-the-counter products are much weaker and don't fit your teeth, so results are slower and less even.

Can I whiten veneers or crowns?

No. They keep the shade they were made in, which is why we whiten before any front-tooth restorations.
